Owner Peter Loos is a botanist by love, a
horticulturist by trade, and a plant taxonomist in his spare time.
His professional experiences in various fields of the horticulture
industry have greatly contributed to his extensive knowledge of
Texas Native Plants and related ecological issues as well as his
unyielding promotion of bio-diversity throughout our environment.
Peter was State President of the Native Plant Society
of Texas during his long standing work on the state board. Currently
he is president of the Cajun Prairie Habitat Preservation Society in
addition to participating in various other endeavors such as Legacy
Land Trust and the SFASU Mast Arboretum Advisory Board. Peter owns
and operates Ecovirons, offering propagation, consultation,
landscaping, ecological evaluation and wetland mitigation services
out of his nursery in Chireno, TX and throughout the Gulf Coast
states (he’s even been spotted landscaping and consulting as far
north as New Jersey).
Peter Loos has worked in the nursery and landscaping
trade in this area for more than 20 years. Ecovirons has been open
since 1993.
Mr. Loos is author of several papers regarding Texas
Native Plants; was the first Assistant Director to the Stephen F.
Austin State University Arboretum where he designed their Bog Garden
along with other specialized projects; was working as Senior
Forester for the City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department
when he implemented a large scale, community planting of a variety
of native trees along White Oak Bayou; has recently been very active
in numerous wetland restoration and mitigation projects and has
continued to maintain his love of sharing native plants with others
through various speaking engagements, the leading of horticulture
workshops, and assisting schools with the implementing of various
habitat/outdoor classroom projects.
Ecovirons specializes in hard to find native plants
for pick-up or delivery for large orders.
